Close proximity to Hemingway house ('natch). Fantastic casual dining. Loved the fresh blackened Red Snapper fish sandwich. Finished up with homemade Key-Lime pie. Totally amazing meal and delightful service. Recommended!

Excellent key lime pie and coffee. 2 people can split it since it's a sugar bomb. But GOOD!

After a visit to the Hemingway house, you have to grab a meal at the 6-Toe, right? I had the lobster Benedict & it was pretty good. Not terrific, but not below average, just right around "good". On a sunny morning, the front deck seating is a must. They got a nice breakfast / lunch menu, but I'd say the name of the place & the atmosphere are what will really bring ya in. They do have nice morning cocktails, but in my opinion they really need to add a Bloody Mary option. Btw, my wife had the Caprese & she said it was delicious.

Stopped here for a quick breakfast before going next door to the Hemmingway House. The breakfast and lunch menu, we were quickly told, were both available. I chose the French toast, but as I am vegetarian, asked to sub the meat for fruit. I was then informed there would be an up-charge because the fruit was fresh. (The whole way down I saw watermelons and cantaloupe for $2 on the side of the road... How is fresh fruit more expensive?) I refuse to be up-charged for being vegetarian so I settled on the Popeye omelette. When our plates came out and I cut into my meal, I found bacon. The kitchen had confused our plates and I wound up with my husband's omelette and my side items. Good thing I checked first. A bad experience soured me on this place. It was cutesie enough but nothing to recommend it as special. Convenience won out but it was still $25 for an average-to-mediocre breakfast.

Medicore at best. Food is over priced for what you get. I think they mostly get business because they are next to Hemingway house and of their name. Your better off trying somewhere different unless you just want a nice place outside to eat.

Terrible and filthy restaurant! Don't waste your $$! They twice served me white toast and insisted it was sour dough, 1st serving also had mold on it. Coffee cups served were unwashed. When we pointed all this out the rude waitress and manager just made excuses and acted like we were nuts. Way overpriced!

Excellent food and superb service in a fun and funky atmosphere. Eva was friendly and prompt, staying right on top of coffee refills. My omelet was delicious and my friend had the eggs benedict declaring them to be top notch. I highly recommend this great little place in old Key West.

Delicious breakfast on the outdoor patio with a view of the Hemingway house & the historic lighthouse. Good food & good service.

The blackened shrimp benedict was awesome and a good value compared to other places on the island. A great place to grab a bite to eat, certainly before or after your visit to the Hemingway house. Only thing that kept it from 5 stars was a slightly dated decor.

Lovely restaurant. We stopped by around 30 minutes before its closing. We got outside seating, with cypress leaves falling, it's beautiful. For food, it's great. We had lobster reuben which has good chunk of lobster meat and warm cheese that's hard to cut off when you were biting. It's authentic cheese style and love it! Lobster BLT was also great with some veggie and the almighty bacon. The full stuffed toast had all the fruit and smelt so good. Then we god some fresh lemonade which is really refreshing and good tasting. One more thing, the place has many sorts of little souvenirs selling, which are cute and worth walk around and picking up some goodies when you were waiting for food, though they were pretty fast. In short, good atmosphere, warm and nice. Good food. And cheering waitress.

Menu was very limited, food wasn't great and over priced for what it was. It's hot and humid inside just as it is outside. Not worth it. Upside: The only good thing were the French fries.

Don't know how much better life gets than sitting outside by the street watching the world go by . Fresh cup of coffee and a steak and egg burrito . Or maybe a cup of coffee and a lobster BLT . Any one that's not more than satisfied here when they leave , just stay home . Food is excellent and service is very good . A must stop in key west !

Just got back from vacation in Key West. We had a lot of great meals and a lot of delicious breakfasts (Sara Beth's, Blue Heaven, La Creperie) but the one I'm most compelled to review is Six Toed Cat. I ordered the pink shrimp benedict and it was awesome. Heavily seasoned blackened pink shrimp that were perfectly mellowed out with the hollandaise sauce and also the avocado, which was a nice, unexpected touch. The coffee was very good and my cup was never less than half full. We also loved the fresh squeezed OJ. Here's another important tip: The breakfast here was every bit as good, if not better than Blue Heaven, however... we did not have to wait 45 minutes to get in, there weren't flies and chickens harassing us while we ate, the service was friendly and super attentive (Blue Heaven's can be a little smug and/or aloof). Also, the room (we sat inside) is very bright and airy and COOL. Thanks to the entire crew of Six Toed Cat for the best overall breakfast in Key West and also the most memorable. We felt like you were grateful for our business. We'll be back!

We've eaten here several times while visiting Key West. The food is always outstanding, and the service is good. They have the absolute BEST orange juice I have ever had in my life! As with anything in Key West, they aren't terribly inexpensive. During our last trip (late August 2014) they seemed to have had a bit of an ant problem. Not the most appetizing experience when there are ants crawling all over the window next to your table, but it obviously didn't keep us from returning.

We wandered off Duval Street in an attempt to find something a little touristy, and came upon this place. It was good, not spectacular. The atmosphere overshadowed the food. It was nice to sit on the porch, eat and watch the bicyclists and pedestrians. Close to Hemingway's House - hence the name six toed cat. I had the spicy shrimp wrap and coleslaw. Both were very good. My boyfriend had the Reuben and coleslaw. The Reuben was made Panini style which was different. Just good place to eat, not spectacular.

The blackened shrimp Benedict was the best breakfast I had during my whole time at key west. Cute little diner, not crowded, a hidden gem for sure. This is the place the locals recommended outside of the blue heaven scene.

Located right next to the Hemingway House, I always find myself at least once here during my trip for breakfast. Prices are decent and love the cat theme. This last visit I tried the Eggs benedict over english muffin. Delish! Parking can be an issue during the busier times. I will hopefully try lunch here one day.

Starting with our host and server, Amy, who was very sweet and on point. Let's get to the food. The spicy shrimp wrap is a winner. Their cole slaw and potato salad delish. Their prices are very reasonable and they also have a cute little gift shop area.

Before heading to the Hemingway House, my husband and I stopped here for an early lunch. It is quite small on the inside but very cozy. The decor is cat-themed and the tables are modeled after six-toed cat prints. Adorable! Every table had guests but it was not overwhelming or crowded feeling. Both of us had tasty sandwiches. Connected to the restaurant, there's also a fun quirky gift shop. Plenty of fun souvenir shirts and notecards.

Cool little restaurant/shop right next door to the Hemmingway House. We stopped in for breakfast and enjoyed it. The omelets were good and accompanied by some nice crispy hash browns. My stuffed french toast was excellent. Two slices of french toast stuffed with vanilla cream cheese, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Yummy! service was friendly, quick and efficient. Eat on the nice porch overlooking Whitehead street.

Best breakfast I've had in a while! Went down to the keys for a weekend wedding and each morning we faced the same struggle in finding a breakfast spot. I'm glad I can proudly say this will definitely be a must-do for every keys trip moving forward. My boyfriend and I shared the stuffed French toast and a side of hash browns and bacon. I don't even like French Toast but OMG this was delicious! Stuffed with fresh fruits this was definitely one of those dishes that was light but substantial enough to fill us up for a morning of sightseeing. The atmosphere was great. We sat out since and even enjoyed the company of a local rooster the waitresses like to call Richard. The only downside was the food and check took a little long to get to us after asking for it. Definitely a two-thumps up!

  • Doug L.

Went for lunch. The service was a little spotty, all the waitresses seemed to be assigned to all tables. But the food was outstanding. I got a fried shrimp sandwich and it was the freshest most tasty sandwich I have had in a long long time. I loved it and would go back again and again

This cafe is nice! Walking distance from the historical water tower and the Hemingway house. Food is a little pricey but it's good!

  • D A.

The atmosphere is charming and quirky (the inside houses a small souvenir store including book parodies of Hemingway's life starring cats) and the outdoor seating area is really airy and relaxing. The food is fantastic. Easily the best pancakes I have ever had. Here's a trick - skip the all-in-one menu items (which cost up to $13-14) and order things a la carte. Pancakes are $2 each, I think each egg was $2, and coffee was $1.50. You can stuff your face with less than $8.

If you're afraid of cats or chickens, I would not suggest coming here. I love this cute little shop. Inside, there's artwork of cats, cats, and more cats. I love cats! They also sell cold drinks and snacks. They have a nice patio area to sit on, but there are chickens roaming around it, so if you're scared of them, stay away. Lol! My friends and I came here to escape the heat and humidity of a hot Key West day and had cups of refreshing SWEET TEA. The worker there was really nice, he brought us 2 pitchers of sweet tea to refill our cups before we hit the road again. Now that's service!

My breakfast & latte were delicious! The location is nice and fairly quiet compared to other restaurants in Key West. My server was friendly and knew the menu items (and preparation) very well. I really enjoyed relaxing on the porch and enjoying my meal. Plus, the porch is non-smoking which is great! I will definitely come back.

After visiting the Hemingway house at about 1:30 pm in the afternoon, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in at the Six Toed Cat for a late lunch. The place looked cute and fit our mood after our great tour of Hemingway. You could tell the place was winding up from a busy lunch hour with waitresses grabbing checks and cleaning off tables, but we stood in line with two other couples in front of us. After 15 min the two couples were seated inside, but we asked for a spot outside when a table on the patio was available knowing that we might have to wait longer. As we were waiting a minority woman and her young son got in line behind us. The son was getting tired and needed to sit down so she and her son skipped the line to sit at an open table inside that was small and cramped by the front door. Immediately the waitress in charge yelled at her MA'M YOU CANNOT SIT THERE, YOU NEED TO GO BACK AND WAIT IN LINE. We told the waitress that we didn't mind if she cut us in line to sit at that table because we wanted a table outside anyway. She shook her finger at us and said DONT. At this point it's been 30 min and there are three open tables inside and two outside (one was a table of 6) but the woman still wasn't seating anybody. She seemed flustered after a lunch rush and continually raised her voice at the woman behind us waiting in line. She told us that despite the open tables she couldn't seat us in the table of 6 because it was a Sunday and needed to reserve that in case a large group came in. Mind you that the lunch rush is over and in 30 min there are only three couples in line and 5 tables are open. The afternoon escalated where the minority woman behind us was crying because she and her son were exhausted and wanted to eat so we plead with the waitress to let her sit. The waitress yelled at the woman telling her that she was not allowed to sit. It was clear at this point that the waitress was racist against the woman's ethnicity after continually belittling her. We decided to leave after waiting in line for over 30 min for a table as we will NOT support an establishment that condones racism.

Six toed cat is a nice little place to enjoy breakfast or lunch while in Key West. My husband would classify this style of food as "chick-food"...salads, tuna sandwiches, etc. So keep that in mind if you are trying to please a man who thinks steak and eggs is standard breakfast fare. I wasn't overwhelmed by the food, but it wasn't bad by any stretch. And the patio seating, which offers a nice relaxing spot for light conversation, people watching or quiet reading, more than made the experience 3-star worthy.

Went for lunch and it was AMAZING. The fried lobster BLT was huge and delicious for $18. Everything seemed home made and really fresh. The potato salad was perfect. Service was great and super friendly. This is certainly a place not to miss. Visit the Lighthouse or Hemingway house after your meal, the are both right next door.

We were in Key West for 4 days. We tried to go here 3 times during their posted open hours and they were closed 30-60 minutes early every time. After visiting the Hemingway house we needed a quick drink and an employee was outside sweeping 30 mins before closing time and we asked if we could come in and she sternly said NO WE ARE NOT OPEN. I see all these other people on yelp were able to check this super cute place out, wish i had been able to.

Six-Toed Cat (visited 2/20/13) is one of those locally recommended eateries that are long on quaintness and, fortunately, not short on menu or cooking. It was a beautiful morning in Key West, about 70 degrees with a light wind, so we chose outdoor seating overlooking Whitehead Street. The noise from the street, punctuated by the frequent asthmatic whine of motorbikes, the chug of Harleys and the loud speakers from the tour buses was a little distracting. I had the steak burrito, which came recommended by the server and prior visitors, and my partner in crime had the lobster benedict. Our breakfast was marred by her having to send her meal back because her eggs were underdone. After that, she rated her meal less than perfect, saying that the lobster was grilled to the point of being unrecognizable as lobster. I had absolutely no complaints with the burrito.

  • DruMiguel E.

Stopped to grab late lunch, had the steak'n egg burrito, wife had the eggs benedict. Not bad BUT very pricey (as anything around here) for a rather mediocre meal, "meh" service and nothing else to share. A truly souless, bland, not good, not bad place - we kinda wish they had cats walking around, but they did not. I just hoped the six toed cats were not part of the menu in any way, shape or form.

I intended on going to another nearby restaurant but my gf didn't like their menu so we stumbled upon this joint and I'm glad we did. The food was fantastic and I wish I had found it earlier in our trip. Key West is a big touristy spot so food tends to be a bit higher than usual but this place was priced just right. Everything on the menu looked delectable and this is a "must-go" spot on my next visit.

I have been here before for lunch and loved it so we decided to go back for breakfast. My husband had the cajun shrimp eggs Benedict and I had the regular and we were going to share. My GF had the crab cake Benedict and her fiance had the lobster Benedict and they too were sharing. The other couple got a lunch wrap and split it. When we got there and told them table for 6 and we wanted outside we were told about 10 minutes. 15 minutes later the lady told us she had a table for us, but someone else gave it away... really? So we waiting another 20 minutes. We were seated and all knew what we wanted because we had been looking at menu while waiting. One person ordered coffee and the rest of us ordered water. I usually get the hollandaise sauce on side because I don't like it swimming in sauce. They were short 1 water and when we asked for the extra water and refills for the table we were told coming up (it never came) I also asked for steak knives to cut the eggs Benedict because its kind of hard to cut through ham egg and muffin with a butter knife. Also was told coming right up and never came. The shrimp eggs Benedict was absolutely delicious. Mine which was just the original had a huge chunk of ham (about 1/2 inch thick) which was very strong possibly smoked ham (not the Canadian bacon I am used to) had it have not been so huge or strong taste it would have been fine. The other couple who also ordered Benedicts asked for more hollandaise sauce (which rightfully so, it was possibly 2 tablespoons on top and the same with mine that was on the side) they charged an extra $1.00 for another 2 tablespoons of hollandaise. The hash browns that came with the breakfast were probably the blandest I have ever had. They would not do separate checks (which we were aware of they had a huge sign outside) but based on the lack of attention and service will most likely never go back.

    (2)
  • Crissa R.

Quaint and sunny cafe with basic breakfast fare. The key lime hollandaise sauce is delicious and I definitely had buyers remorse when my husband's blackened shrimp Benedict arrived. Skip the key lime pie - it doesn't have enough tartness and the consistency is not quite right.

I could give this place 5 stars just for the name, since I'm kind of a huge fan of Ernest Hemingway's polydactyl kitties...But I digress... After visiting the Hemingway home, we found ourselves hungry and in need of some lunch before heading over to Mallory Square for sunset time and all things Keys-y. Duval Street was out of the running, since we decided we wanted to go some place "off the beaten path" (which in Key West means about a block or two off Duval), so we chose the Six Toed Cat. We were seated outside (which is the only way to eat in Key West as people watching is in season year 'round) and after a couple of minutes of staring at the menu I chose the Skirt Steak Panini and by my hubs chose the Veggie Panini. Veggie Panini- pretty hard to mess up, it was pretty solid... Skirt Steak Panini- to the folks at the Six Toed Cat, may I make a suggestion? When you load up a sandwich with properly seasoned skirt steak and avocado, there is NO need to douse it with Chipotle mayo/sauce/whatever. The flavors of the Skirt Steak and avocado are savory enough to carry the entire sandwich. It would have been a perfectly delicious sandwich had you not added heaps of Chipotle to it. The accompanying potato salad was pretty tasty. Service was characteristic of the Keys: a bit on the slow side- but nothing is rushed in this awesome little town!

  • Ashley B.

We started out at Blue Heaven (we heard the hype), but the bartender was super rude (and the $8 tiny mimosa was so not worth it) and they were on a 45 minute wait. So, I got on my phone and found that the Six Toed Cat was right down the street, and we decided to go there instead. Wow, am I glad that we did! The food was AMAZING! My husband ordered the burger with gruyere cheese, and I got the steak and egg burrito. Yum, yum, yum, yum! We're planning to go back before we leave to have another burger! AND the mimosas were 3 times the size of Blue Heaven's and they were only $5. They also had a cute little gift shop, the staff was super nice, and the tables are in the shape of 6-toed paws. Cute!

    (5)
  • Rob T.

Amazing flavored steak and egg burrito for brunch, and the six toed cat punch was a great change to the basic mimosa. Will definitely return again. Loved how you could create your own sandwich.

This is a great breakfast spot right next to the Hemmingway house. It is somewhat small, but manages to get everyone in. We were here around 11 am midweek for breakfast. I had the Steak and egg burrito with hashbrowns and it was fabulous!! The $5 mimosas were delicious. Cute gift shop. Service was good. Would def go back.

Staff was cute. We stopped in after touring the Hemingway House for a quick drink. We got an Iced Tea and a Limeade. Limeade was definitely STRONG lime flavor. I loved it but it was way too lime for my wife. She loved her iced tea though.

We got the lobster benedict and the blackened shrimp benedict special. Both were phenomenal. Super fresh ingredients, lovely presentation, lots of meat on both and very tasty. On Previous visits to key west, a variety of cafe's, bars and odds and ends shops have occupied this space next to the Hemingway house. Seems like the six toed cat hasn't been in this location too long, but the fresh paint and tables shaped like cats feet are cute. I had a very good breakfast burrito here. The skirt steak inside of it was flavorfull and yummy. The eggs cooked perfectly. It came with what they called "southwestern" hash browns. I has hoping for hash browns with green chilies like I've had on visits to new mexico but it was not to be. While very tasty, putting chopped up green and red bell peppers into hash browns does not make a "southwestern" dish. Service was a bit erratic and the person waiting tables seemed a bit overwhelmed when 4 tables came in all at once, but I expect that will get smoothed out over time. Prices are reasonable, especially for key west. Worth another visit but I hope they get there service issues worked out because I know some of the table that were there while I was, aren't coming back due to that issue.

Ate here for lunch two days. The first lunch was the best-fresh fish sandwich and veggie sandwich. Both were full of flavor and cooked/grilled/seasoned great. Only thing we did not like were the onions in the potato salad. The second day got a burger and a chicken sandwich. Wish I had gotten the veggie again, as the chicken sandwich was just OK. The burger, as related to me, did not have any flavor at all. Just bland. Seems like they would season it, as this would have made all the difference. The second trip was not our first choice, but as I wrote in a review, we never got service at the first stop. Seems like the staff is stressed, probably from cruise ship patrons/foreigners not leaving any tips. When there is one bad apple, the rest must pay the piper. Perhaps they should start adding 18% automatically so that the staff can make a living. They were all working hard. Cute gift shop inside too. We ate on the patio each day, lovely! Cool weather, no bugs and visited by the chickens and roosters, which does not happen in daily life.

Found this restaurant on Yelp, while my wife and I were staying in Key West last week. The great reviews on Yelp did not disappoint us. Great food, Great service and great location right next door to the Hemingway House. Three words "Stuffed French Toast."

  • andy z.

I was originally turned off by the $11 price tag for a salad along with $5 for a helping of protein on top. I figured that it was a little bit pricey! I was surprised to see that I most definitely got my $5 worth because I basically doubled the size of my lunch with really nicely cooked pieces of steak on top! Very Good! Their Key Lime pie is homemade and actually tastes better than Blue Heaven's Key Lime pompadours! Yes I would go back.

Cheap breakfast, good desserts. Fresh airy place, coffee mediocre. I loveeeeee macaroons and they had great one here. Portions are small for big boys - but hell w/ the booze and etc calories on vacation take it easy on a few days. Next to the Hemingway House and lighthouse convenient and big bath rooms - Support this place.

This place is super cute. It's right next to the Hemingway house, hence the name. The shop was really fun and overall it was quite charming. The service was good, although the food was rather disappointing. We stopped here for a quick bruch en route to the Hemingway house - unfortunately it wasn't very good. We shared the eggs benedict - one of my favorite breakfast meals. However, the ham was a bit too thick for my taste and the poached egg was poorly done. It was overcooked so the yolk was not runny at all - which really ruined the whole dish. I did not enjoy this meal - and I don't think we'll come back, at least not for breakfast.

We went here three times. The first time to have some sangria which is only $1 if you order a sandwich with it. All I have to say is they weren't cheap on the wine in it because it got the wife tipsy... and it was refreshing too at 4 pm in the afternoon. The other time was there was to get a lobster sandwich which was absolutely delightful and not fishy like some places I go to. The third time I had a regular breakfast before we left Key West. This is a great breakfast joint and its cheap.

eclectic little place located next to the Hemingway house. Offers some of the standard fare but have been twice now with mixed results. Staff friendly enough but food consistency and portion control seemed be lacking. Will try again as place had a Hemingway comfort level.

Six Toed Cat in Key West treated us very well.... As most do in Key West, I went out and partied like crazy the night before. Unfortunately, while I was out, I agreed to take a local Zumba class the next morning.... that being said, by the time I actually arrived for breakfast (after Zumba) I was miserable and hungry. I ordered lunch before it was served and they graciously gave me something substantial. They served freshly squeezed OJ with their mimosas!! It was great. Everyone at the table was extremely happy with their choices. I was thrilled.... we went back 3 times during our 10 night stay! If you are looking for LARGE portions... this is not the place. I think they have a Denny's there if you like that kind of stuff! I did have the coffee... and I agree, it was not very good. :( All in all... I give you 3 stars.... Good luck! I'll check in when we come back... as we may in a few weeks! Cheers!

I seem to keep coming back to this place again and again. It may be because I love the Hemingway house and its right down the street.....it may be because its sun-shiney on most days. Let me just say for a key west joint its not crowded and you dont feel like it's super expensive for its style. Its clean and bright and the food has always been really good to me. The staff is cute so I think for many that might be a plus. In general it doesn't feel like a total tourist trap to me and it made me want to eat breakfast there every day since it was so quiet and peaceful, and isn't that what everyone wants on the next morning in key west?

I went to Key West May 5 for a week and after visiting & seeing everything on one of their tours we stumbled upon the Six Toed Cat. Our group was tired, hot & famished but the restaurant is very humble looking so I didn't expect much. To my surprise they served me the most delicious fresh tuna panini with a light, refreshing coleslaw. The tuna was beautifully pink on the inside and so amazing. My cousin had French toast stuffed with strawberries & cream cheese & her granddaughter had a chicken panini. We were all so thrilled with our respective lunches we came back 2 days later and again were thrilled by our meals. Thank you Six Toed Cat we loved your bright, cheerie decor & paintings of cats.

Nice little cafe style restaurant next to the Hemingway home. My wife and I ordered Panini sandwiches. I had the roast turkey and she had the reuben. I liked mine and thought it came out well. My wife didn't like hers as much but she said it was good enough. She had potato salad with hers that was very good and I had the fries that were excellent. Jolee (Jolea?) was our server and she was a very nice young lady. I'd eat here again.

We stopped here after visiting the Hemingway house for a bite to eat. The strawberry spinach salad was wonderful! The smoked turkey panini with pepper jack was pretty good too. Iced tea tasted fresh, was not watered down, and was very refreshing on a hot day.

Food was great, the waitress was very friendly. Fried shrimp sandwich was a very nice size, BIG shrimp! The stuffed French toast was, oh so, yum-my! They don't have a kids menu (at least not that I saw) but they were very accomadating, putting things on the, or leaving them off all together.

I stumbled on this cafe as the rest of my group went to Hemingway House. Delightful place to sit in or outside. I chose outside partly because I love it and partly because the music inside was not my taste. The service was warm and prompt. Several people checked on me while I waited. They let me order a side of yummy steak, warm and tender. The prices were awesome for Key West. Huge, freshly baked cookies for 50 cents. After I finished my treats I gave up my table to linger over coffee at the outside "bar." The hostess said that was not necessary, but I could tell she was grateful. When I ordered cookies to go, she told me one "broke" as she was packing them and it was an extra! Don't miss even if you are not touring the Hemingway site.

Right down the street from the Hemingway house, we stopped in for a quick brunch. The service was fine, but the food and coffee were awful! The coffee was like drinking hot tea, the eggs benedict were meh, and the shrimp and grits?! Maybe the cook has never had real shrimp and grits like we make here in NC? It consisted of a bowl of dried out grits with fried popcorn shrimp from a bag on top. I've experienced shrimp and grits done several ways and this was the worst! Save your money and use it on a tour of the Hemingway house.

Great place for a relaxing breakfast. Spacious and plenty of outdoor seating. Food was great and everything was fresh. Good regular coffee, tasted like it had some espresso mixed in the brew. Very friendly.

I am a local. Decided to try this place out one Sunday morning for breakfast. I could have bought better food at the Waffle House for half the price.

They are located across from the Hemingway House. That extra toe is put to good use in the kitchen where they pump out done purrrfect meals. We came for breakfast but they told us we could also order off the lunch menu which was great because they have some fabulous looking lobster sandwiches for lunch. We went with the lobster eggs Benedict and the fried lobster BLT. You don't get the measly miniature lobster trimmings that some places serve. No, The lobster chunks here are huge! They are 8 oz chunks. They have by far the best lobster eggs Benedict in Key West, and the best I have ever eaten. They are $2-$5 pricier than at other restaurants in Key West but well worth it. You do get your monies worth and they are delicious! The fried lobster sandwich was equally great. My wife loved it and we are planning on eating here again during this visit to Key West. Chet was our waiter and he was fast, friendly and efficient. This place has shot to the top of my recommended Key West breakfast spots.

Key West is expensive, I get it. Key West restaurants run the gamut from Disney to utilitarian, from cozy to expansive, from charming to charmless. I have been to some excellent restaurants that were charmless but made up for it in food and service. I have been to both expensive and cheap locations that have delivered excellent food on this island. Unfortunately, the Six-Toed Cat lacked charm, provided functional service and decent food for a relatively high price-to-quality ratio. With Blue Heaven on vacation I was really craving something lobster benedicty. My wife ordered just that so I quickly switched to the lobster BLT and we shared. The food was A-OK but nothing to justify the price tag, even when the location is taken into consideration. Probably an easy one to skip if Blue Heaven is open.

We had incredible lobster eggs benedict with avocado. (I think I posted a pic) It wasnt too busy when we went but I would imagine it gets packed simply because its next to Hemingway House ( which explains the name and all the cat artwork and knick knacks for sale) Staff is very friendly too.

Bad choice. We headed over to Blue Heaven but the wait was an hour, so went on yelp and found Six Toed Cat nearby, with relatively good reviews. My boyfriend ordered a breakfast burrito and I had a club omelette. The omelette I was given was not a club, but had peppers and onions inside and was obviously the wrong order. The waiter did correct it and was quickly replaced by a not quite completely cooked club omelette. To me, they should not be gooey. The hashbrowns were disgustingly cold and dry for both of us. Maybe their lunch is better, but the food was just not good here. I would not recommend.

Neat place to eat! Had breakfast early (beat the crowds), good service, great food - cooked to order. Parking can be difficult, but if you're planning on visiting the Hemingway House, you are in luck for a few spots.

You know, this is not a bad place to have lunch. Outdoor and Indoor seating, good service and great food....and not too expensive for Key West. Try the shrimp wrap...really good. Great place to stop after you've walked through the Hemingway House just down the street.

It's a small restaurant with comfortable inside and outside seating. I sat inside and nothing was wrong. I had the Lobster Benedict for breakfast. It was good, there was really nothing bad about it, other than it was a little cold. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be? Either way, I enjoyed it. I also had a slice of their homemade key lime pie, now that is something you have to try. It's very unique and has a great taste.

Being from Arizona I am comfortable in the heat. That being said, this Key West humidity is killing me! We walked past this cute placed and stopped for lunch. Great food and a nice cool break from the heat!

I returned to Six Toed Cat because I thoroughly enjoyed the meal the first time I went and this time did not disappoint either. We arrive in between breakfast and lunch and had our choice of either. I went with the Denver omelette and my husband had the Rueben. Delicious! This is a great place to sit and people watch and enjoy a good meal. The service was friendly and attentive and the prices were reasonable. We will keep going back!

This restaurant serves as almost an unofficial gift shop cafe to the Hemingway House next door. Just right for a quick lunch, some cold lemonade and a lovely view. We sat outside and enjoyed listening to the street roosters crow while partaking in some light and fresh food. The cuisine is typical American lunch style: salads, sandwiches, etc. and not particularly noticeable or creative, but everything was just right. Fresh and light and nothing to complain about. I went for a salad with strawberries, cheese and spinach and my husband dined on a oversized sandwich. Both came out quite quickly, though it did take a few minutes to put our initial order in and get drinks once we were seated. I think there was possibly only one waitress on for the whole restaurant at that moment. The restaurant itself boasts a generous space inside for those seeking air conditioning and an outdoor patio for taking in the sun or watching other tourists queue or climb a lighthouse. Both have their merits!

....So I planned to go to Blue Heaven which is something of an institution though unfortunately, it has been overrun by touristas and I refuse to wait an hour for an egg ... I digress.. So I found this little place ( thanks Yelp) and figured I'd give it a try. Cute place though the menu was so damn good I really struggled to order. Finally went with a spicy shrimp wrap which I realize is not a breakfast item but I negotiated with a guest with me to score a bite of the blackened shrimp eggs Benedict and planned to steal a bite of the skirt steak and egg wrap from one of the kids ( An advantage of having kids) so I was good to go. (. Also the wife got stuffed French toast and someone got a grilled cheese with Gruyere and apples so the gamut is covered) Ok, juices and smoothies are super freehand service very cool and friendly. I ended up swapping half the shrimp Benedict for half my wrap. Both were fantastic. The egg was perfectly poached and the seasoning was just a little to give the dish a spark without being overpowering. The shrimp wrap was clearly made to order and was excellent (spicy if you like that sort of thing). The stuffed French toast was perfectly sweet but not too much. I could go on but suffice it to say it I'm a foodie and this was the best brunch second perhaps only to Norma's in Manhattan. Here in Key West Sarabeths, Blue Heaven and Pepes are probably the popular best. That's only because this place isn't as well known. It was fantastic and Im thinking maybe I'll come back tomorrow.

I had a late lunch at Six-Toed Cat after seeing the famous polydactyl cats at the Hemingway Home. Andy Z. told me they have *the best* Key Lime Pie, in his opinion, and I was looking forward to soaking up some sun and sangria on their large porch. Though it was well past lunchtime, the place was packed. I waited about 20 minutes for a table. The waitress came for my drink order, a Sunset Sangria, brought it pretty quickly, and then left me for 10 minutes. It gave me plenty of time to browse the menu, which had many tasty sounding dishes on it, and I finally decide that I'd go for the Blackened Shrimp Eggs Benedict. It was incredibly delicious, a bit spicy, and very rich. I was only able to eat half and the leftovers kept and reheated well the following day. I completed the meal by adding on a slice of the famous Key Lime Pie my friend raved about, and I gotta say that I don't agree with him that it's the best, but I did enjoy it (makes the top 5 on my list) and it was memorable for being covered with a layer of whipped cream and having a graham cracker crust that contains mashed up chocolate sandwich creme cookies.

Solid, wonderful little cafe. The seafood we had was sweet and fresh, and the seasoning and breading didn't overwhelm but instead let the seafood sing. Service was just right - friendly without being overbearing, quick enough, but slow enough to give you time to enjoy yourself and relax. It's right next to the Hemingway house, so start your morning there and hop over for lunch (or vice versa!). It has a bright, fresh atmosphere and decor and very clean bathrooms. I will return here every time I head to Key West.

I have recommended this place to no less than 6 people. The key lime pie is amazing. HOWEVER, we had 9 people and were told they couldn't seat us even when we offered to wait and split up. They continued to seat other people around us. Steph tried to help us and was interjected by a server who said "they've been talked to already". Really? Guess they don't want my business anymore and we come down here several times a year.

We stopped in for breakfast this morning (9/3/14) after passing by it going to the Hemingway House a few days before. We walked into the gift shop and told to sit where we wanted so we walked outside to the nice oversized porch along Whitehead St. Their breakfast menu is somewhat standard with a few ambitious specials. There are 4-5 omelettes, a steak egg, and cheese burrito, a few sammiches, and a few varieties of eggs benedict.(regular, blackened shrimp, and crab meat). I chose the steak burrito. This was nicely sized chunks of skirt steak, well seasoned, with egg and cheese. The burrito is very large and comes with the a side of hasbrowns that were a little oily but good. Also comes with half an avacado and pico to put on the burrito if need be. The service is friendly but somewhat slow. The staff is all of one lady handling all the tables so it's to be understood plus it's the Key's no need to be in a hurryI

We ate here twice, first time hit it out of the park... second time not so much. Service was excellent on our first visit and food came out quickly. BF had the western omelet with hash browns, I had eggs fruit and toast. Nothing was greasy, which is a surprise for most breakfast joints, especially when it comes to hash browns... which were extra crispy good. The eggs were fresh and fluffy and not over cooked. The 2nd time we ate here service was beyond slow... took forever to get our drinks, then our food, we were not checked on, didn't get refills... it was well over and hour and they were not busy. Myself and another ordered the fruit... it was obviously old and should have hit the garbage and not our table, especially at the price.. two days earlier the fruit was fresh.. the blueberries were mushy, the grapes were mushy... just sat too long.

After touring Hemingway House we stopped at six toed cat for a cooling iced tea. It was really fresh brewed. After looking at the menu we decided to get their cob salad. Presentation was inventive. The veggies were fresh, crisp and inviting. They provided me a fabulous balsamic vinaigrette that complemented the freshness of the salad. I give 5 stars: 4 for food but 5+ for service.

Adorable little place! Loved it! The lobster eggs benedict was delish, i loved it with the avocado! My boyfriend had the regular eggs benedict and also loved his! Its safe to say neither of us had any leftovers on our plates and we would highly recommend six-toed cat for a great breakfast in Key West!

Walked in and the young lady immediately says hello, please take a seat anywhere and will get you some menus! So far so good right! Only four other customers in the Whole place! One young fella waiting on the two tables and he is 3 feet from us! Nothin, not hello, would you like menus, can I get you a cup of coffee, a glass of water, nothin! Walked back and forth past us 5 times in "15" minutes! Nobody ever said another word to us from the time we entered. Eventually the young lady disappears into the back, the young fella followed her and that was about enough, we just got up and walked out. We only went their as a recommendation from a local who said it was very good! So much for that. Won't be going back there, that's for sure!

If I could give this place 3.5 stars I would, but let's be nice and round up to 4. The food deserves 5 stars but decor and customer service was a bit lacking. We visited on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch before checking out the Hemingway House. On arrival there's no hostess to greet you, but there's a few people behind the counter who see you but don't acknowledge you... We stood around with another party of 4 for about 10 min before a gentleman with the other party asked the lady behind the counter, "Is someone taking names? Or should we seat ourselves?" To which the lady answered (in a snarky tone), "No, there's no seating yourself. We're obviously busy right now, give us a few minutes and someone will be with you." WOW. My mind was blown. Almost walked back to Blue Heaven but they had an hour wait... So we finally get seated after about 20 min when a man from the kitchen comes out to help the 2 servers who obviously don't do well under pressure... Once we were seated everything went smoothly. The 2 servers were actually kind and attentive once you sat down! Food was excellent! I had the lobster Benedict and my hubby the cheeseburger. No complaints about the food at all, everything came out quick and delicious. The A/C must have been broken that day since 2 technicians came in at the end of our meal and were working on the thermostat... But golly it was just as warm inside as it was outside, maybe warmer. Overall a decent experience but maybe they need to hire another server or a pleasant hostess!

Stopped in for breakfast on the way to the Hemingway house, and we weren't disappointed! Got the lobster benedict and the shrimp benedict, and the only reason we didn't go back is because I wanted to try all new places. Food was excellent and it was really pleasant sitting outside and watching the people passing by. Good, fast service and delicious food. Can't beat that!

A great place to grab a quiet breakfast with friends and family. The restaurant has a very homey feeling and the food is fantastic. Additionally, there is an outdoor seating area and their fresh squeezed juice is great.

I previously left this place a 5 star review. I have changed my mind after my most recent visit. Was told they had no seating for us but they kept seating people after we went in. We did have a large group but there was plenty of seating outside. I still purchased a pie because they are just so good but I will probably not frequent this place for anything but the pie. Felt like I was being treated badly. So 5 stars for the pie and really enjoyed the food the previous visit but the staff(besides one who was very apologetic) should treat patrons with a good bit more hospitality.

This cafe is located just across the way from Ernest Hemingway's House and is named for his six toed cats that roam the house and property. There were none at the cafe though. We sat outside on the raised patio which was very pleasant since it was early morning and the weather was warm. We both ordered a typical breakfast - bacon, eggs, sausage, etc. It was a very basic breakfast but very delicious. The portion wasn't gigantic, which is what I prefer. I don't like eating a big breakfast and not be able to finish it. I particularly liked their coffee as well. It was the standard coffee, not one of the fancy over priced ones and was quite tasty. You can also get free wifi here but don't sit outside for that since you won't pick up the signal. Worth stopping by if you're going to hit the Hem House especially.

What a cozy and lovely place to eat breakfast. The cute name is what grabbed my attention. Plus it's located right next to Ernest Hemingway home. That added to the "coolness" of this spot. The breakfast was good --but not exceeding my expectations like I had hoped. In there defense I kept my breakfast pretty boring. The lobster eggs Benedict did look amazing. This a must try, great spot to relax and have a cup of Joe.

What a lovely little spot. We stopped here for lunch after touring the Hemingway house so the A/C was very welcome. I had the catch of the day sandwich which was a fried hogfish filet. Wife had fried shrimp sandwich. Both had a lovely panko and cornmeal breading that was lightly seasoned and really let the freshness of the seafood come through. Staff was super nice prices dead on.

Great little restaurant for breakfast and/or lunch while in Key West. The service was excellent, and friendly. My husband and I tried the the fish of the day, yellowtail snapper, that was lightly breaded, and pan sauteed. Delicious! On our second visit, the South-west omelette with crispy hash browns, and a Popeye, made with spinach, onions, tomato, and feta. Both very tasty. Don't miss the Mimosas made with fresh squeezed OJ! A must visit on our next visit to KW.

There's nothing too special about this restaurant. The food is decent, but the coffee is pretty good. Me and my family came for breakfast and it looked like there was food left over from the previous lunch. The service was a little slow. I wouldn't come back, but it's not a terrible place to stop.

The best key lime pie out of all we tried! Great food! The waitresses were really friendly and the place is cute and right next-door to the Hemmingway House. The Keylime pie is apparently made with across this a combination of graham crackers and Oreo cookies and is just to die for.

After having breakfast here on our first day in Key West we had such a great experience that it became our go to place for breakfast the rest of the week. Great food (my wife loved the Lobster Benedict) to the super friendly staff and great outdoor dining space. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Key West. The owner and staff of this restaurant take a lot of pride in what they do and it shows. Keep up the good work!!!
